New Bedford's first art museum, the New Bedford Free Public Library began acquiring works by local and nationally known artists in the 1850s. Today, its collection includes pieces by Albert Bierstadt, William Bradford, John James Audubon, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Ralph Fasanella, and many other notables in 19th and 20th century American art history. Special 1/2 hour tours of the collection will be offered at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00 during Open Studios on Saturday, October 1. Please meet in front of the steps on Pleasant Street (in case of rain, meet in front of the circulation desk on the first floor). |
