MEDIUM: Mixed-media - paint, print, and photographs on panel. Also, dimensional ceramic mosaic designs.
 
I’m intrigued by the contradictions that occur in landscapes: chaos and order, permanence and transition, cruelty and beauty, life and death. I explore these conflicting ideas by juxtaposing geometric elements, such as color blocking and borders, with the softness and organic fluidity of ink drawing and photography. Some of these compositions bear resemblance to textiles and tapestries; others refer to matting and framing. Instead of seeking a framing as a final act from an outside source, I’m incorporating the idea of framing as a primary and integral part of the composition, to elevate and emphasize the landscape.

I create rich colors and encaustic-like textures with multiple layers and washes of acrylic media on wood panels.
