Patricia Daughton — Drawing, Printmaking

Biography
Patricia Daughton earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis on studio and art history from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, and a Master's Level in Art Therapy in Vancouver. She moved to Washington DC in 1989 where she practiced as an art therapist for three years before moving to New Bedford in 2003. She currently maintains a studio at 88 Hatch Street and is the Program Coordinator for the AHA! Project (Art, History and Architecture) in downtown New Bedford. Patricia's works have been characterized as at once abstract and figurative. She is interested to the strange juxtaposition been the real and the imagined, with forms morphing into other forms to create idiosyncratic relationships. Her work is in both private and corporate collections.

Artist Statement
I think of art as a bridge between our self and the physical world. As a person trained in both fine arts and art therapy, I see art as an interaction between our psychological existence and our cultural expression of that existence. Thus, this can include challenging and sometimes disturbing imagery as well as the aesthetically pleasing. The artist's conceptual vision and her ability to translate this for an audience is what transforms the ordinary experience to a historically and culturally significant event.
