Barbara Leger — Oil painting

Marine illuminist 2008

The ocean gave promise to Barbara's forefather when he crossed on the ship Fortune from Southwick, England in 1621, and gives her promise today when she captures its allure in the oils. Ms. Leger is a marine artist with 20 years of working experience. She is part of the Cape Cod artists group as a lead artist in the illuminist oil movement. She is represented by premier coastal galleries. Find her work in New England at The Vanderbilt Gallery Nantucket and The Evans Gallery Nantucket. Barbara is listed with the Oil Painters of America.

Born and raised on the water, her interest has been to portray the magnificents of the ocean through her brush. Recently promoted in the Cape Cod Life Magazine 2008 Arts Edition, she is classified as a fine marine artist in the American tradition. Barbara is exalted for her absolute understanding of the expansion, depth, roll and brine of the ocean. As a leading illuminist, she is able to portray the water almost to the point of sound and motion.

Barbara understands that Art has the power to collaborate on the task of raising public understanding about and stewardship of our oceans. Her mission is to demonstrate how the arts can be an effective tool in raising public awareness about the critical state of our oceans. Its role as the fabric of life on our planet, the plight of its endangered marine life, as well as the amusement and excitement it offers our lives in swimming, surfing, fishing, and sailing. She offers her small studies as a bridge to healing between us and our oceans.
